Where to Stay in Fiji
We all know that Fiji is a tropical paradise. Boasting palm-fringed beaches, colourful culture and azure blue waters, there’s nowhere we’d rather holiday.
As an archipelago of more than 300 islands, however, there are so many different areas to choose from when planning a Fiji escape. In fact, you may just be wondering whether to stay in the main tourist area of Port Denarau, travel down to the scenic Coral Coast or hop on a ferry to one of several surrounding islands.
We’re here to make that decision easier. Keep reading for our guide on where to stay in Fiji.
Denarau Island
Known as the beating heart of Fiji tourism, Denarau Island is the place to stay if you’re looking for a luxury resort experience and plenty of activities to fill your holiday. As Fiji’s most exclusive resort enclave, Denarau Island is a true paradise for holidaymakers, with world-class resort chains, superior shopping, dining and entertainment, and easy access to Fiji’s best attractions. Plus, Denarau Island is just a 20-minute drive from Nadi Airport, easily making it the most convenient place to stay in Fiji.
For such a small island, Denarau Island sure packs a punch when it comes to things to do. Tee off at the 18-hole course at Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, splash out with the family at Big Bula Waterpark or learn more about Fijian culture at the Broadway-style ‘Fiji Untold’ show at VOU Hub. Hop on the Bula Bus to Port Denarau Marina, where you’ll find local stores, indulgent spas and a great selection of restaurants. From here, you can also embark on an unforgettable island excursion, such as to Malamala Beach Club or South Sea Island. We mean it when we say that Denarau Island has something for everyone to enjoy.
When it comes to accommodation, Denarau Island is home to nine resorts, including big names like Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island and Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa. Discover our Denarau Island holidays here.
Coral Coast
Stretching 80 kilometres between Sigatoka and Suva on the southern shores of the main island of Viti Levu, the Coral Coast can be reached in a one to two-hour drive from Nadi Airport. Lined with idyllic golden beaches, sparkling fringing reefs and accommodation options to suit every traveller, the Coral Coast offers a more laidback vibe than bustling Denarau Island. A huge array of cultural activities and outdoor adventures on offer make the Coral Coast a firm favourite amongst families in particular.
While you can easily spend your holiday on the Coral Coast soaking in the sun and relaxing in your resort, there are many things to do for the more active traveller. The award-winning Sigatoka River Safari offers the perfect blend of culture and adventure, as you catch a thrilling jet boat ride to a local Fijian village. Meanwhile, Kula WILD Adventure Park, with its water slides, zip lines and animal encounters, is a hot spot for families. Other things to do on the Coral Coast include the Sigatoka Sand Dunes, Natadola Bay Golf Course and the Off Road Cave Safari.
The Coral Coast offers a wide range of accommodation options, from the luxurious InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa to the family-friendly Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and The Naviti Resort. Discover our Coral Coast holidays here.
Mamanuca Islands
For that secluded island vibe, leave the main island of Fiji behind and set sail for the breathtaking Mamanuca Islands. Located off the west coast of Viti Levu, this archipelago of 20 dreamy islands is renowned for its powdery white sand beaches, coral-fringed blue lagoons and endless choice in resorts. Regular daily boat transfers from Port Denarau and even shorter flights from Nadi Airport make the Mamanuca Islands Fiji’s most accessible island destination.
Holidays on the Mamanuca Islands are all about relaxing by the beach with a cocktail in hand and taking advantage of your resort’s facilities – we’re talking lagoon-style pools, luxurious day spas and endless water sport options, like surfing, jet skiing, kayaking and snorkelling. Of course, there are plenty of things to do if you’d like to explore beyond your resort. Spend an afternoon at Cloud 9, a floating bar and pizzeria, or head out on an excursion to a local village, where you can visit a local school, browse small craft markets and make friends with the welcoming villagers. You’ll never be bored when staying on the Mamanuca Islands.
Does the Mamanuca Islands sound like the holiday spot for you? Choose to stay at the adults-only Likuliku Lagoon Resort, the family-favourite Plantation Island Resort or the ultra-luxe Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, Fiji. Discover our Mamanuca Islands holidays here.
